Recover a Interlogix TruPortal access control panel. AND get past the very frustrating flash plugin issue.
The Factory reset procedure is simple enough, the issue is when it comes back, it will be inaccessible due to flash being a raging security flaw. We can fix it though. Here's how. First. Factory reset your non-responsive panel:
1: Format a USB stick with FAT32
2: Put the NGP.bin firmware file in the root, we have never had an issue ignoring the instructions to use 6.0 firmware and instead using the 7.2 firmware. (found here: https://www.interlogix.com/docs/TruPortalCD_1.72.100.zip or here if that link goes down: https://files.kamit.ca/NGP.bin)
3: Power down the panel.
4: Plug in the USB stick in ether USB port
5: Hold down the Test button
6: Power on the panel while holding down the button, wait until the red SOM light comes on and count to ten
7: Let go of the button and wait a while, the Green light should go solid, orange will blink when its done. You really do not want to power the panel down before its done, so if you need to leave it alone for a half an hour, then do so!
This will now restore you to a completely "functional" panel that you can not gain access to.
With a TruPortal, if you plug a laptop directly in to port one. Most will cause the ethernet port to turn on and off unless you are connected through a network switch. So connect both the panel and your laptop to the switch and find the IP address. If you do not have a DHCP server on the network, then:
1:Connect to port 2 on the TruPortal. This can be direct to your laptop.
2: Set your laptop static IP
IP: 169.254.1.199
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Gateway: doesn't matter, but you can enter 169.254.1.200 if it makes you feel better
DNS: again doesn't matter, but 8.8.8.8 is acceptable if it makes you feel better.
Open a web browser up, brows to https://169.254.1.200 and revel in the error message about flash no longer being available. That being said, if you get the error, it means the panel is responding.
Now we just need to get past the issue for a few minutes. You will need to install a web browser that many people say is insecure, it isn't by its nature, it just gives you complete control. That means if you want to make bad life choices, it isn't going to stop you. So, lets make some bad life choices.
**Joking aside, the only reason this is a bad life choice is because leaving it installed on your main computer is a big security risk. So I recomend removing it once your done this. That being said, I leave it installed because I only run pale moon to recover TruPortal panels and other hardware locked to adobe flash web interfaces.
Now that you have Palemoon installed, you need to open Palemoon and brows to https://169.254.1.200 and log in. Typically at this point its the default username and password of:
username: admin
password: demo
If that lets you in, good job, you get a cookie. Now lets make it work from any browser. We need to update its firmware to 1.80. This will remove the need for flash and enable html5 support. When you download the 1.80 firmware, you will be tempted to use the "pannelupgrade" application that comes with the firmware download. You can try that. Some times it works. but usually, it gives a CRC or checksum error for some reason we will never get an answer to. So you need the 1.80 files from: https://www.interlogix.com/docs/tp_1.80.zip or if its down: https://files.kamit.ca/tp_1.80.zip
You will need to first set the IP address to static. Now, I have had mixed results doing this from the web interface. Try it first, but I make no promises, you will probably end up using the setupwizard included with the 1.72 firmware. Make sure ethernet port 1 is plugged in to a network switch with a DHCP server available on it. Then connect your laptop.
